San Diego at Last

Well, I’m in San Diego at last. For those of you who are not following me on Instagram, the story of my travels is a 40-hours story involving unplanned manicure and shopping, and some empty swimming pools in Texas, but it does have a happy ending with a filled swimming pool and some palm trees.

Last Summer I was travelling through California as well. It was a business journey but also a very personal journey trying to figure out a difficult situation. And I kept some sort of a personal diary.

This year, the journey is similar.

As I already wrote, I’m trying to figure out how to expand and possibly shift the path that has seen me being involved in digital transformation for the AEC Industry in the last few years. Long story short, we have a huge hype around the usage of BIM to enhance the way we design and build our cities and infrastructure, and I think it would be futile to even approach the topic without a deep and clear understanding of what our brothers and sisters in GIS have been doing for the last 40 years. This is what brings me to San Diego, to the Esri User Conference. It’s like the Autodesk University of GIS, if you know what I mean.

This year, next to the User Conference San Diego is also hosting the Education Summit, one of the main reasons for me being here. And yes, in case you are wondering, there is something cooking.

I’ll be keeping a journal as well, of all the interesting stuff I’ll be coming across.

I can’t promise I’ll be able to give you regular daily updates and I’m still away from Twitter, so don’t expect a live update. Still, I’ll try and share my notes with you. Stay tuned.

Isaac Asimov’s “Fantasy” collection

I take issue with this volume, and not because they’re short stories and you’re bound to like some more than the others: they’re all delightful, with very few and negligible exceptions. No, my problem is curatorial: I take issue that instead of grouping all the

The Murderbot Diaries: All Systems Red + Artificial Condition

We’ve been watching Murderbot, a tv series on AppleTv starring Alexander Skarsgård (the guy who thought this picture would be the best way to officially represent him on IMDB), David Dastmalchian (he was Piter De Vries in the latest Dune, some of you might remember
