"All this he saw, for one moment breathless and intense, vivid on the morning sky; and still, as he looked, he lived; and still, as he lived, he wondered."

Good Omens Indeed

I’m a huge Neil Gaiman fan. I know I already wrote this on several occasions, but allow me one more time. Among his works, considering only novels and short stories, Neverwhere holds the sceptre but I’m not indifferent to this novel either. Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch (weirdly translated in Italian as something along the lines of A very merry Apocalypse to everyone!) is a story of how Doomsday is faced by the bon viveur Angel Aziraphale and good-hearted Demon Crowley.

The book just got turned into a short series by Amazon Prime and it’s a delight to watch: David Tennant and Michael Sheen are simply perfect and, although special effects are not one of the strong points of the series, you’ll soon forget that the demon’s eyes really suck. Other surprises include Miranda Richardson, Frances McDormand voicing God, Man Men’s John Hamm as quite an asshole of an Archangel Gabriel, a beautiful Lourdes Faberes as Pollution (the new Horseman after Pestilence retired) and Benedict Cumberbatch as Satan’s voice. The soundtrack and choice of songs is marvellous. Attention to detail is incredible, from setting to objects to vehicles. If you have read the book, you’ll love how faithful and well-tended is the transposition. If you haven’t (or if you don’t remember it), you are in for a delight and some surprises as well. Either way, highly recommended. We binge-watched it through a weekend.

What a splendid exhibition! I was expecting your regular, run-of-the-mill show at Palazzo Reale, which is usually good enough, but I was surprised at the depth and width of this new endeavour, that spans across the city with multiple initiatives and, even within the show
